Q. What kind of waltzes do you do?
A. We dance twelve figured waltzes at each monthly ball. Between the waltzes we also have other ballroom dances, e.g., tango, foxtrot, two-step, free waltz, etc.
Q. What is a figured waltz?
A. Each waltz has specific choreography. All dancers perform the same figures together as they circle the ballroom.
Q. How does one learn the figures?
A. The Broadmoor Waltz Club conducts free lessons beginning in August and continuing through the season. See the Schedule page for more information.
Q. Are the twelve figured waltzes cued?
A. No. Dancers learn and memorize the figured waltzes.
Q. Do I need to have a tuxedo to dance with the Broadmoor Waltz Club?
A. Yes. The dress code is “black tie.” Informal or “business” attire is not permitted. See the Dress Code page under the top menu for more information.
Q. Why do you have a dress code?
A. The Broadmoor Waltz Club is dedicated to preserving the elegance of traditional grand balls. The dress code helps one to know what to wear to avoid looking out of place.
Q. What do ladies wear?
A. Ladies wear formal, full length gowns. See the Dress Code page under the top menu for more information.
Q. How often do you have balls?
A. There are six balls a season beginning in October. See the Schedule page under the top menu for more information.
Q. Where are your events held?
A. We dance in the Grand Ballroom of the five-star Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Springs. The Christmas dinner is in the Lake Terrace Dining Room at the Broadmoor.
Q. How can I become a member?
A. A couple can apply for membership by contacting a current member and requesting to be sponsored as a new member. We recommend couples attend waltz lessons (see the Schedule page) before applying for membership.
Q. How much does membership cost?
A. Dues are set at the beginning of each season. Dues are currently $200 per couple for the season to include six monthly balls. Dinner at the Christmas ball is an additional cost.
Q. Are singles allowed?
A. No. Memberships are couples only.
Q. Can anyone join?
A. The Broadmoor Waltz Club does not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity. We do have a set limit to the number of memberships per season. The Club reserves the right to refuse membership to anyone who does not comply with the standards of dress and behavior defined in the Bylaws.
